Holiday Break!

This week at home has been really great! It makes me happy! I've been spending quality time with my family (I know my mom loves this! lol) and actually taking time to relax! I guess I'm trying to squeeze in all the family time I can get before I move, but I really am going to miss this place. KC that is, my room feels weird lol. It feels like I'm back in high school...creepy! haha

But today...exciting things will happen! Proffer and I will be hunting for the perfect bridesmaid dress! And then talking about wedding stuff and maybe even tying ribbon onto the bubble tubes! I'll have to try to convince her to help me with that though! lol But she does want to play with the bubbles though! Wheee!

Ah I can't believe Christmas Eve is tomorrow...I'm excited though. I think my mom and I are going to bake cookies! Maybe play some cards and spend time together. We'll probably pick up my grandpa so he'll be here too. I already know what I'm going to wear tomorrow and Saturday lol and then Sunday I leave to go see Jon! I'm so excited!

This week has just been great. I know I've already said that but it really has. :-)

Doughnuts and Coffee = Love.

Doughnuts and stale coffee. To some of you this may sound disgusting, to others it may be a normal breakfast occurrence. To me, it is a memory I treasure. Not necessarily the food and beverage themselves but the scent. The lingering smell of hot, fresh Krispy Kreme glazed doughnuts and stale black coffee fill me with fond memories from my childhood and reminds of my dad.

He always had to have his coffee in the morning. But it most reminds me of our road trips to the family farm or driving down to visit him for a while during the summer. It is comforting smell. It was funny though that in October when I was with my family, my dad pointed out that he had coffee that morning specifically so that he would smell like it for me. We both had a good chuckle. There was also an incident that weekend that left me crying in my dad's arms and engulfed by the smell of coffee. Just him saying, "It's okay, I've got you. Just let it all out."

It took me by surprise, but I was happy to have him there. He was never really around during my childhood or moody teen years for the emotional ups and downs of middle school and high school. Usually a friend is my shoulder to cry on, occasionally my mother is the one to hold me and let me cry. But it was nice to have him there. I felt an emotional pull which made me cry even harder. It was almost overwhelming that I actually had my daddy when I needed him. He was able to be there for me and tell me that everything was going to be okay. He could hold me until I stopped crying and shaking. My daddy was there to keep me from falling. My daddy was there to protect me from everything evil in the world.

Even though I hated the circumstances which caused me to cry, in the end I appreciate the experience. It was a wonderful reminder of my father's love. I needed that reminder because it in a way made me feel so much closer to my dad. Over the past few years, I have been trying to put my resentments and anger towards him in the past and this was the last wave to wash all of that away. I now have proof that if he had been able to be there for me through the raging storm that was high school and the horrendous amount of drama from middle school, he would have been there for me in a heartbeat.

It is not that I doubted his love, I guess I just never knew how he would react in those situations. I blame a serious lack of togetherness and ignorance on my part. Maybe I was too hard on him throughout the years. Actually, I probably was too hard on him. But now I know the error of my ways. I know I can count on him to be there for me now. Through anything, especially the big things.

Thanks to the smell of doughnuts and stale coffee I came to this realization. Those smells will always bring comfort and warmth to my heart. They will forever remind me of the love of my father.

Thanksgiving Break update

I really haven't been posting on here as much. That makes me sad, but at the same time this semester has been crazy busy! And now there's only a week and a half of classes left then FINALS! AHHH! haha they are spaced out decently, so I think I'll survive.

This is going to be more of a random post just another recap/planning post. Nothing too exciting, other than the fact I'm avoiding my projects I REALLY should be working on. So here it goes:

Thanksgiving Break:
Tuesday night: I got home in good time and was able to go out to a nice dinner with my mom and stepdad at California Pizza Kitchen! It was fantastic as usual! They still have my favorite pizza ever! Eating there always brings back memories, even though my friends and I usually ate at the one on the Plaza...it still is part of me.
Wednesday: I got up early to eat breakfast with Sarah! It was fun, as usual, seeing her and catching up! Then I went home to do laundry in my mom's new washing machine! It is the shit! I hope one day I can get one as cool as her's haha. While I did laundry I did homework: marketing paper and marketing reading. Lunch at Salty Iguana with Lorell! Then went back to do more homework. Then I went out to Zona Rosa to hang out with Proffer! Ah it's always a blast hanging out with her! We also found some really good deals on clothes! When she had to get back to her family, I went home and worked on homework and watched some tv. When my parents got back, my mom and I watched How To Train Your Dragon. I LOVE that movie! lol
Thursday/Thanksgiving: I met up with my dad, stepmom, and stepsister at my Grandma's place. We ate lunch there and it was actually better than I expected! They served HAM! YAY! haha. We played the traditional game of dominoes, which I won in order to keep up with that tradition. And then we left and ate a snack/dinner at their hotel and just hung out and talked.
Friday: Got up and my mom and I went shopping at the mall and got some great deals on clothes! Yay! lol It was awesome to get to go shopping with my mom! We ate at Panera for lunch, yummy! Then I got my hair highlighted, cut, and my make up done! Coffee was then purchased to get the extra energy boost we needed to hit up DSW before going home. It was a very productive day, but tiring as well. It was really nice hanging out with my mom again.
Saturday: Homework, bought bridesmaid's shoes, homework.
Sunday: Church with the family, lunch at Cheesecake Factory! YAY I'm so glad I was able to get it when I was home! I have missed its yumminess! haha Then I packed up my car and headed back to DM. Got a little more homework done that night after I unpacked and crashed.

Overall it was a FANTASTIC break! I'm so happy it went well and it makes me even more excited to go home for Christmas break! Only a few more weeks! I just have to hang in there and focus on school. That last part is the tricky part though. I'm so burnt out on school that it's been hard to get things done. Oh well, just gotta keep truckin'!
