Doughnuts and Coffee = Love.

Doughnuts and stale coffee. To some of you this may sound disgusting, to others it may be a normal breakfast occurrence. To me, it is a memory I treasure. Not necessarily the food and beverage themselves but the scent. The lingering smell of hot, fresh Krispy Kreme glazed doughnuts and stale black coffee fill me with fond memories from my childhood and reminds of my dad.

He always had to have his coffee in the morning. But it most reminds me of our road trips to the family farm or driving down to visit him for a while during the summer. It is comforting smell. It was funny though that in October when I was with my family, my dad pointed out that he had coffee that morning specifically so that he would smell like it for me. We both had a good chuckle. There was also an incident that weekend that left me crying in my dad's arms and engulfed by the smell of coffee. Just him saying, "It's okay, I've got you. Just let it all out."

It took me by surprise, but I was happy to have him there. He was never really around during my childhood or moody teen years for the emotional ups and downs of middle school and high school. Usually a friend is my shoulder to cry on, occasionally my mother is the one to hold me and let me cry. But it was nice to have him there. I felt an emotional pull which made me cry even harder. It was almost overwhelming that I actually had my daddy when I needed him. He was able to be there for me and tell me that everything was going to be okay. He could hold me until I stopped crying and shaking. My daddy was there to keep me from falling. My daddy was there to protect me from everything evil in the world.

Even though I hated the circumstances which caused me to cry, in the end I appreciate the experience. It was a wonderful reminder of my father's love. I needed that reminder because it in a way made me feel so much closer to my dad. Over the past few years, I have been trying to put my resentments and anger towards him in the past and this was the last wave to wash all of that away. I now have proof that if he had been able to be there for me through the raging storm that was high school and the horrendous amount of drama from middle school, he would have been there for me in a heartbeat.

It is not that I doubted his love, I guess I just never knew how he would react in those situations. I blame a serious lack of togetherness and ignorance on my part. Maybe I was too hard on him throughout the years. Actually, I probably was too hard on him. But now I know the error of my ways. I know I can count on him to be there for me now. Through anything, especially the big things.

Thanks to the smell of doughnuts and stale coffee I came to this realization. Those smells will always bring comfort and warmth to my heart. They will forever remind me of the love of my father.

Thanksgiving Break update

I really haven't been posting on here as much. That makes me sad, but at the same time this semester has been crazy busy! And now there's only a week and a half of classes left then FINALS! AHHH! haha they are spaced out decently, so I think I'll survive.

This is going to be more of a random post just another recap/planning post. Nothing too exciting, other than the fact I'm avoiding my projects I REALLY should be working on. So here it goes:

Thanksgiving Break:
Tuesday night: I got home in good time and was able to go out to a nice dinner with my mom and stepdad at California Pizza Kitchen! It was fantastic as usual! They still have my favorite pizza ever! Eating there always brings back memories, even though my friends and I usually ate at the one on the Plaza...it still is part of me.
Wednesday: I got up early to eat breakfast with Sarah! It was fun, as usual, seeing her and catching up! Then I went home to do laundry in my mom's new washing machine! It is the shit! I hope one day I can get one as cool as her's haha. While I did laundry I did homework: marketing paper and marketing reading. Lunch at Salty Iguana with Lorell! Then went back to do more homework. Then I went out to Zona Rosa to hang out with Proffer! Ah it's always a blast hanging out with her! We also found some really good deals on clothes! When she had to get back to her family, I went home and worked on homework and watched some tv. When my parents got back, my mom and I watched How To Train Your Dragon. I LOVE that movie! lol
Thursday/Thanksgiving: I met up with my dad, stepmom, and stepsister at my Grandma's place. We ate lunch there and it was actually better than I expected! They served HAM! YAY! haha. We played the traditional game of dominoes, which I won in order to keep up with that tradition. And then we left and ate a snack/dinner at their hotel and just hung out and talked.
Friday: Got up and my mom and I went shopping at the mall and got some great deals on clothes! Yay! lol It was awesome to get to go shopping with my mom! We ate at Panera for lunch, yummy! Then I got my hair highlighted, cut, and my make up done! Coffee was then purchased to get the extra energy boost we needed to hit up DSW before going home. It was a very productive day, but tiring as well. It was really nice hanging out with my mom again.
Saturday: Homework, bought bridesmaid's shoes, homework.
Sunday: Church with the family, lunch at Cheesecake Factory! YAY I'm so glad I was able to get it when I was home! I have missed its yumminess! haha Then I packed up my car and headed back to DM. Got a little more homework done that night after I unpacked and crashed.

Overall it was a FANTASTIC break! I'm so happy it went well and it makes me even more excited to go home for Christmas break! Only a few more weeks! I just have to hang in there and focus on school. That last part is the tricky part though. I'm so burnt out on school that it's been hard to get things done. Oh well, just gotta keep truckin'!

I Have Pretty Incredible Friends

Lately, I've come to realize that not only are my friends amazing, they are amazingly strong. The past few days I have really been thinking about it and all of my really close friends have overcome some difficult things and difficult times in life. They have been able to do it with their heads held high and have become such strong people. I'm so amazed and blessed to have friends like these to be there for me and help me along in my dark moments. They give me strength and courage when I need it and I try my best to do the same in return. I am so lucky to be surrounded by such wonderful people. They all deserve the best in life.

To all my friends, I love you all.

Today's Schedule

Well I guess I have a few min before class to write a bit on here. I've been neglecting this :-( Well more like, I'm not really getting good ideas to write about. Or I do, but end up forgetting them by the time I'm finally able to sit down and do it. Oh well. That's life right!

Although I do wish I had something meaningful to write about instead of my normal rant about life. It's continued to be mostly work and homework. It's finally getting cold outside, like winter cold. But again, we did make it with nice weather to the middle of November so I can't really complain too much.

I cannot believe how fast this semester has gone. There is only a month left, literally, before finals are over! Most of my classes shouldn't be hard to get through. It's marketing that I'm most concerned about. See, I have to write a 15-20 page paper. I've never written one that long before so it will definitely be a challenge. I should probably start on it soon too. I only have 3 weeks to get it done, on top of everything else I have going on. But today I have a lot of time to get stuff done...and since I like making lists, let's make one.

Shit to accomplish today:
-go to class!
-Marketing web assignment
-finish reading Ch. 7 for Human Geography (it's my last chapter to read, why not get it done and out of the way early. That way I have more crunch time later.)
-Spend the rest of the day working on my Final Marketing Project/Paper.
*Make outline
*Goal: 3 pages. (that's not too bad and starting is always the hardest part. And I can always write more if I have time)

That seems like a reasonably productive amount of stuff to get done today. Let's do it!

Ninja November

Well hello November,

Fancy seeing you this time of year. A surprise really, although it really should be. I knew the leaves had been changing and falling all around me. I knew the weather was getting colder. But I guess I was to busy with everything going on that I just didn't see you coming. You're like a ninja. I'm happy to see you though. October was a stressful month, so I'm hoping you'll treat me better. You started out kinda crappy though, no offense. All of that homework, those tests, long hours at work...and still more to come. But let's see what else you have to offer. Break is coming up! Which means going home to see the family, seeing old friends, getting a short break from classes, and good food! I guess it also got me to today-300 days and counting until the wedding! Wheee! Holy cow, only two more weeks until the week of Thanksgiving! Where has time gone?! Again, I blame your ninja skills. In a week it'll be 6 months til graduation. 6 whole months. Dang. I remember back when it was still 3 and a half years away. When it was a faint glimpse in the future, but no it's coming up and I know these next 6 months and a week will fly by. Crazy.

I'd write more, but I really should be productive and at least get a few pages read for marketing or human geography. This is also going to be a busy week but hopefully things will die down a bit after the 15th. Here's a schedule:

Monday: Class, read ALL of Ch. 11 for marketing, work on Ch. 6 for Human Geography, study for philosophy test
Tuesday: Class, start reading Ch. 12 for marketing, finish Ch. 6 for HG, study for philosophy test, meet with group
Wednesday: Presentation, finish Ch. 12 for marketing, reread all 3 readings for philosophy, study for philosophy
Thursday: Philosophy test, class, HG quiz
Friday/Saturday/Sunday: work, homework
Monday: class, study for Law & Ethics test
Tuesday: class, Law & Ethics Test, class

Just rar.
